"Doesn't spin true. wobbles" 2009-12-06

Well, For a basic cordless drill it is nice in that it charges fast, light weight and easy to use. However, the one I received does not spin true so driving a long screw will be a bit harder than normal.

It has handy features in that it has hex and flat head tips that fit on the back top of the drill so you always have them with you. It also has a bit for holding these tips that also is held on the base. If it wasn't for the wobbling I would rank it a 4.

For the money I have gotten better at Lowes so that's why not a 5.

Haven't used the stud finder yet but that was a nice addition.

I won't return it but won't buy the same model next time I need one.

I've worked in construction and used many different brands of cordless drills, but I really like the Black & Decker for home projects. This 14.4V drill is lighter than the 18V ones I have to use on jobs, but still plenty strong enough to get the home projects done. The battery lasts a long time too. There's just a 5-position clutch, not a 24-position one as it states in the description, and the case it comes with is a joke (it's a vinyl bag with a zipper), but I guess I'm just used to the hard cases I've always had with my cordless drills in the past that offer the drill more protection and have places to carry screws, etc. Even my old 12V B&D drill came with one. The stud finder isn't the best I've ever had, but it works okay, and you can't really complain, since it was free. All in all, I'm very happy with my purchase and will definitely continue to buy B&D tools. As far as the sale with Amazon's seller, I got it promptly and undamaged, and I have no problems whatsoever with purchasing anything from these people again. Thanks!

1. Wrong item initially sent (cordless ordered, drill with cord sent); contacted seller who apologized & agreed to send correct item.

2. When correct item received, it did not include stud finder originally included in purchase.

3. When correct item was received, batteries for stud finder were bad, exploded & corrosion was all over inside of drill & case...along with human hair...DISGUSTING!!!

4. Response time adequate, but I won't buy from this seller again, too many problems for what was supposed to be a Christmas gift.

I've had mine for a couple weeks and, so far, have used it twice. Works great and is no heavier than my old 12 volt cordless that I've had for about 5 years. The 18 volt battery was a plus for me since I purchased the B&D cordless trimmer last spring, and it uses the same battery(I got 2 with the trimmer). This drill offers more power than you'll ever need for household projects. And having only 5 torque settings isn't really a big deal either. I had no problem assembling a plastic table for my grandsons for Christmas and never stripped one screw. The only drawback that I can see is the storage case could have been designed a little better. You have to remove the battery to put the drill back in the case. But, there is room for everything, including the stud-finder, in the case.

To be honest, I would buy this product again and I've already recommended it to a number of friends.

I... I just can't understand it... the only conclusion I can come to, is this:

I'm serious! this product is just so all around perfect! Ample power, sturdy construction, and well, I have to say it... They Look So COOL! I'm in the process of making an island for my kitchen and I have to say, these tools are doing the job!

I can't wait to buy more of the VPX line :)

Two big problems with this product line. The system isn't variable speed and when you release the trigger the tool continues to operate. Don't buy to try since the restock fee and shipping run about half the cost of the product.

Ideal for my basic diy projects. The Vpx system could be withdrawn so please do check with the manufacturer if concerned with that. Great battery power. Perfect for the small jobs where pro equiptment is just not worth the investment.

This tool set has excellent power for a 7 volt system. Tools are small, light weight cousins of full size, high voltage portable tools.

If you are use to a "clutched" drill/screwdriver, the clutchless drill/driver can take you by surprise when a screw reaches it's depth, or a drill bit suddenly stops turning. Defiantly a 2 handed operation if you want save your wrists. It has very, very good power. I drove several 3-1/2" screws fully into 2 x 4's without any problem at all. The chuck is a quick release 1/4" hex.

The charger charges quickly and you can power extra chargers off the upsteam one without needing separate 120 volt outlets. These portable power tools should always be sold with 2 batteries, at a minimium. This set had one battery.

The light is handy and light weight. It should hold it's battery power for use in emergencies a long time being LiIon, like cell phone batteries.

I bought the set mainly for the cut saw. It worked well for trimming small branches on my trees.

I had the cut saw lock up on me while using it to cut sheet metal and had it sent to a B & D repair facility. I was told several weeks later that they had no repair parts to fix it, nor do they have a replacement units, since they don't build them any more. I received a generous(based on the price I paid for the kit) refund from B & D for the cut saw. I was so satisfied with the refund and the tools that I took the refund and used it to buy another 7 volt VPX starter set. I'll just use the cut saw for light duty work, like tree branches.

I do think Amazon should have indicated on the tool's description page that this is a B & D closeout tool set and that it is no longer made, or serviced under the 2 year warranty.
