"Not What I Expected" 2010-04-25

First the bad, and the false advertising:

- That cool hard plastic case pictured above? You don't get that. Instead you'll get a thin, flimsy bag with no pockets where everything (including the drill bits and chucks) just slam around together.

- When my package arrived 2 of my drill bits were already broken before I even opened the box. I suppose this should be expected because the bits are not secured in anyway so they've just be banging around during shipping.

- It doesn't come with a quick charge, charger. So if you're battery runs dry (and it should, because the manual recommends running it out completely before ever charging it) it takes 3-6 hours to charge.

Good stuff:

- The drill seemed to work and the bits are very quick to change.

Bottom line: They should get rid of the images of the hard case above and replace them with pictures of this craptastic bag sitting in front of me.

I got this as a Christmas gift from my older brother a year ago. At the time, I remember thinking that I'd maybe use it here and there a couple of times a year. Instead, this thing has proven to be a lifesaver. I've used it on countless home repair and hobby jobs for unscrewing/screwing difficult bolts and screws, drilling pilot holes to drilling door knob holes, sanding, cutting, buffing, routing...you name it. Indoor, outdoor, automotive...with the right bits/attachments, this thing can do just about anything.

I have had this drill for a few years. I use it occasionally and it used to work very well. When I needed to drill it drilled. When I needed to drive it drove. And undrove when I made a mistake. A great convenience in putting in screws. I liked it a lot.

It now only works in reverse. There is a switch inside the handle that is supposed to change the direction. It doesn't work any more. I have been in touch with Black and Decker and they say it is not a user serviceable item, and it would cost more to repair than to buy new.

That is bad design. I now have to trash an otherwise perfectly good tool because of a small, minor component.

This cordless tool is great for small jobs, and seems to have plenty of power and spunk. However, if you were going to be doing a lot of work on a big project - this drill isn't the one for big jobs. It is light-weight and plastic - which is lighter to work with and the ability to reach hard to get to places is what it is mainly designed for - for that it is great.

This tool set has excellent power for a 7 volt system. Tools are small, light weight cousins of full size, high voltage portable tools.

If you are use to a "clutched" drill/screwdriver, the clutchless drill/driver can take you by surprise when a screw reaches it's depth, or a drill bit suddenly stops turning. Defiantly a 2 handed operation if you want save your wrists. It has very, very good power. I drove several 3-1/2" screws fully into 2 x 4's without any problem at all. The chuck is a quick release 1/4" hex.

The charger charges quickly and you can power extra chargers off the upsteam one without needing separate 120 volt outlets. These portable power tools should always be sold with 2 batteries, at a minimium. This set had one battery.

The light is handy and light weight. It should hold it's battery power for use in emergencies a long time being LiIon, like cell phone batteries.

I bought the set mainly for the cut saw. It worked well for trimming small branches on my trees.

I had the cut saw lock up on me while using it to cut sheet metal and had it sent to a B & D repair facility. I was told several weeks later that they had no repair parts to fix it, nor do they have a replacement units, since they don't build them any more. I received a generous(based on the price I paid for the kit) refund from B & D for the cut saw. I was so satisfied with the refund and the tools that I took the refund and used it to buy another 7 volt VPX starter set. I'll just use the cut saw for light duty work, like tree branches.

I do think Amazon should have indicated on the tool's description page that this is a B & D closeout tool set and that it is no longer made, or serviced under the 2 year warranty.

I have only used these two batteries once. I charged them for a day and used them in a cordless weedeater. One battery lasted less than 5 minutes, the other less than 10.

I have several Black & Decker 18v tools, and they are useless without adequate batteries.

B&D advertises a longer-use battery but it appears to be unavailable.

I feel cheated by B&D.

this works , we have glass doors on our tub and this makes it easy to clean no more need to be an extortionist to clean .

I did read one comment that said the batteries were not replaceable, but in the directions that are included, it clearly shows how to easily put a new battery pack in should they wear out and they are rechargeable,

I don't use the spray feature seems like it could be a bust though, I just locked the handle in the extended position and will let it be . I use a spray can cleaner, so there is no need for the spray feature.

The motor is strong enough to allow you to put a fair amount of pressure to scrub, it comes with a scratch pad scrubber that is interchangeable but I really don't think it should be used on a fiberglass tub.

Charge lasted long enough to do a good scrubbing and usually Ni-Cad batteries will increase usable time as it is charged and discharged a few times..

I think it strange they show a picture using it in a bathroom sink. I can't imagine a sink needing that much scrubbing.

As far as the soap handle feature which will leak up your arm....It has been a spring cleaners must! Another bad part is not being able to get replacement pads locally. But this thing has cleaned things with little muscle on my part that I thought were unclean-able.! So I named him "Mr. Scrubby"! I know...get a life....I also have 2 of the small hand held scum-busters..."Mr. Scrubby s Babies".

I would recommend it, and have to anyone looking for a scrubber to make cleaning less exhausting for you and to do the job right!!

Disappointed in this product. The extended handle is way too short for standup scrubbing. Unless you really tighten the extender handle that contains your cleaning solution or rinse water, the solution squirts as you scrub and the handle gets lower and lower until you are almost bent over when there is no more solution in the handle. The extender handle needs a trigger mechanism to dispense cleaning solution or rinse water when you need it. It may be asking too much but what is really needed is a container for cleaner solution and container for rinse water to dispense each when needed. The power button is on the scrubber so when you are using the extender handle you have to bend over to turn off the scrubber. A power switch is needed on the extender handle so you can turn the scrubber on or off as needed. In using the scrubber it was very annoying to have the scrubber continue to move until you turn the scrubber off. The power button is not easy to use to turn on or turn off and you have to exert the exact pressure in the exact spot to turn on/off, otherwise the scrubber doesn't turn on/off, a more user friendly power switch (such as rocker type) is needed.

I contacted B&D and asked if the older model attachments (brushes) would work and they indicated they ALL would so I bought this. The old brushes were great but I was never impressed with the pads from the first scumbuster. Once I got this one I could see the old attachments wouldn't fit and contacted B&D again. They did agree to refund my money (not Amazon's fault) but first they offered me more brushes. That big blue brush included wouldn't rotate for me so why should I want more brushes? The pad did give some cleaning but run time was less than advertised and power wasn't that great. The old scumbusters were much better. I am currently awaiting my refund.

This product is exactly what I was looking for. It is small, multi-tasking, and easy to use. I primarily use it to check the air pressure of the tires and keep them properly inflated. I first check the existing tire pressure, dial up what pressure I want and fill 'er up! That's it! I would highly recommend it for monitoring tire pressures and keeping the tires properly inflated. Sorry I cannot comment on the other uses for it since I have not used it for those purposes yet.

I have to say, this has come in very handy for inflating car tires. I have one that tends to leak, but nobody has been able to find anything wrong with it, so I wind up filling it up about once a month. It's so nice to be able to use my very own inflator at home, no coins required ;)

We've also been using ours for inflating bicycle tires and some of our heavy-duty pool inflatables. Operation of this is not 100 percent intuitive and if you don't use it often, you may forget how to perform all of the operations, so maintaining possession of the instruction manual is critical. I would recommend storing them together.

All-in-all, I'm very pleased with this inflator and although we aren't campers, I'm positive that campers would absolutely love having one of these.

Read the manual first which is a must. Afterwards, it's pretty easy to use. I tested the unit on my road bicycle w/ Presta valves. Obviously the Air Station isn't compatible with Presta valves (I have a Schrader valve adapter handy. You can get one at your local bike shop for about $3.)

I set the Air Station to 100 PSI (the max psi on my bike is 125)and pressed the LCD power button. The manual mentions the Air Station "walking" by itself, but that didn't happen to mine. Although loud, it did the job well. I noticed during usage, the battery meter instantly went to one bar. I fully charged it for 5 hours prior to using so not sure what's up with that.

Apparently, some reviewers are having trouble removing the air valve after use. TIP: Wiggle it off clockwise while gently pulling away or don't stick it in all the way. Worked for me :)

Pro's:

- Filled my bike tires in less than 5 minutes.

- Very portable

- Easy to use (at least for me)

Con's:

- Price(Expensive for what it does)

- Loud

- Battery life

- Air hose is short

- not enough accessory slots ( I use hand pump for basketballs so had to take that out)

- A built-in flashlight w/ a separate switch would have been nice
