I bought this item based on the reviews and the fact that my two cordless drills both had their batteries go belly up because they only get used sporadically - so the alkaline power source seemed a good fit. My first, and only, project with this screwdriver was replacing the magnetron on my microwave - all it had to do was unscrew about 25 sheetmetal screws and then replace them. No major torque jobs or anything, but by the end of the project the screwdriver was out of power and wouldn't tighten the screws even snug. It's handy to have around if all you need to do is remove faceplate covers from your switches and wall plugs, save you from having to do it manually, but doesn't have any power or stamina. I can't imagine somebody trying to use this product for woodscrews.

I have nothing but good things to say about this. If you want to cut time doing little projects around the house, this is the best thing you can find. If you buy a variety of bits as well, it can replace a lot of hand tools. It isn't heavy duty though, so if you're remodeling your house, get a cordless drill.

Very easy to operate and strong enough to make a tight twist. The bits that come with it ( straight and Phillips in one piece reversible )are medium size and won't fit small screws. I did find additional bits at Sears.

If you're realistic and expect a lightweight, motorized screwdriver, you'll like this. It is very handy for installing light fixtures and other tasks where you prefer a small motor turning the low demand fastener. I like these for working in awkward positions when both hands are busy. But, if you need ANY degree of torque beyond the force you can apply with your hand (not arm), look for something designed for those medium-duty+ tasks.

I do prefer the convenience of AA batteries so I can count on this being available when I need it. That's definitely a plus. Thanks to B&D for recognizing that benefit.

(PS.. Shop around. These things go for about $10 in many places.)

I do not have much to add to the other reviews, but I have had these scissors for 2+ years and they still work fine. I have not even noticed any weakening of the battery. They are great at cutting most things a standard manual set of utility scissors will cut, but they will do it much faster with good control. No, you should not give yourself a haircut or cut your fingernails with these (and Rabbis, no circumcisions), but they will cut through the weak spots of plastic packaging and non-glued corners of corrugated boxes. Also, cutting through scotch tape or packing tape will tend to gum up the blades which are not fun to clean if they get covered in adhesives.

I must admit that my average frequency of use of these scissors is about 5-10 minutes per month, and they do not have a solid, high quality feel to them. I am still going to buy a second set knowing that they must give out sooner or later with no future assurances that Black & Decker will not decide to discontinue them, without warning, because of slow sales and/or weak margins. The short of it is that they are so handy, I would rather not be without them.

I originally bought these for cutting cardboard as I am having a hard time finding what will cut cardboard. They don't work well for cardboard, but decided to try them when I was cutting out double layers of fleece fabric. It cut through them like butter, thereby saving my hand joints a lot of pain. By the way, if you are trying to make cardboard doll houses or furniture, a scroll saw works great.

The 18v battery does not work very long - like 50 nails and decreasing before the battery needs to be recharged. If the battery lasted longer this would be better for casual homeowner doing limited construction work. It is unsuitable for extended work or for a professional. I have used it to nail less than 1000 nails.

There is no way to know when the battery will need recharging. It just stops nailing and the red light comes on to let you know the battery needs to be recharged.

It works very well when the battery is fully charged. The battery is nailing less and less nails before it needs to be recharged. I read on the Black and Decker website the battery does not have a memory problem but that is not true.

It is much better than the 12V Black and Decker nailer. The 12V nailer does not have enough nailing power to consistently drive the nails in completely. You are left with the nail partially driven in. The 12V unit also has a kickback and the nails do not go in all the way. The low life 12v battery sucks too. The 18v nailer nails better than the 12V nailer and does it with more positive nailing power.

The 18V nailer has the partially driven nail problem if you do not carefully hold the nailer down or when the battery gets low.

The 18V nailer is heavy. The size makes it difficult to get into tight spaces. An angled nailer would be better.

If I could do it all over again I would get the 18V DeWalt nailer with the Lithiom Ion battery. Get the angle nailer to get into the tight spaces.

I bought the combo package at Lowe's a few yrs ago, paid 200 bucks for it. I used it extensively at home and at work. I shot literally 1000's of brads from 5/8ths to 2" in all wood hardnesses. Worked great firing mechanism broke I took the broken pc's out of the inside of the gun, and it worked on half a firing mechanism for the last year. I am in the glass trade and have installed 100's of lites of glass in doors that have wood stops and low noise and nonmarring tip a winning combo. I am in the process of getting a new one and having my place of employment pay for it. We have other nailers at work and mine was by far the best. Ron Lefebvre Belchertown,Ma.

This nailer came with a 6 piece set cast about $150.00. I did not have a use for it for 2 years and got to run s sleeve of nails through and it broke and the part to fix it costs as much as the 12 volt nailer.

I will not buy it. I did like it as long as it lasted. I have all 18 volt tools and will not get a 12 volt system to replace it.

I bought this cordless set along with a B&G cordless mower. As with the mower, the set is very convenient. It is only for light work. I find that the batteries do not last long. Luckily, the set includes a battery for each tool. Since I do not use all 3 tools at any one time, I can finish a job by switching out the battery.

If you need tools for light work, get it. If you are looking at heavy or frequent work, you are better served getting something else. I got what I expected and am pleased with the purchase, but I do wish the batteries would maintain power a little bit longer.

I have only used the blower so far. not alot of power. if you have a small job and dont want to bother with a cord this is great. I dont know how the trimmers are going to work but i think it will need more power than it has if I was guessing by the performance of the blower. I wouldnt buy these again. darnit

These are nice tools for maintaining a small yard. I like having the automatic feed in the trimmer; no worrying about string length and bump and go. It gives you the ability to do standard weed eating and edging, which is nice. The blower is handy for moving grass clippings off the sidewalk or cleaning out the garage. It's not a leaf blower, though... so don't expect a tremendous amount of power. I haven't used the hedge cutter.

The only gripe I'd have is that the battery life isn't great. Another reviewer said a pack lasted about 7 minutes. That seems right to me. After having my packs for a year, they're losing capacity... and will probably need to be replaced after year two. These are NiCd (not NiMh) packs, so they already had that built-in disadvantage.

Anyway, love the tools - and hope they make better batteries for them in the future.
