After my Black & Decker corded mower just stopped in my yard this summer, I needed a new mower and knew I didn't want to go back to gas. I got this mower and was able to set up and use it in one day. The set up was easy and the mower works much better (cuts more evenly) than the other one. This lower would be great for flat lawns. I have a fairly steep hill and count on getting a bit of a workout when I mow, because this mower weighs 72 pounds. The weight comes from the battery which is one easy to remove. But, you don't need to remove it because you can charge it while it is still in place. Also one lever allow you to change the height level of the mower.

Cons: As far as I can tell you can't tell what charge level is on the mower and you need to use a key to start the mower. It is heavy if you have a hill.

Pros: You don't need to remove the battery to charge and can leave the mower on the charger all of the time. Easy set-up. One lever to change the height.

I have used it just three times, and am extremely please so far

This lawn mower is very heavy and the wheels flatten the grass you're trying to cut. I have to go over my lawns twice to get an even cut; once from one direction and the second cut from the other direction. Definately not for new lawns.

About 16 years ago I bought one of the very early model Black & Decker battery powered lawn mowers. It was a very good mower with very few problems during it's life time. Two years ago I gave it to a relative to use because I decided to purchase a new mower. Unfortunately I did not buy another Black & Decker mower at that time. Over a two year period I had nothing but problems with the new mower. Very poor battery life, wire coming loose and shorting out the battery resulting in a battery terminal melting, two new batteries, etc. I finally gave up on it and purchased the new Black & Decker CM1936 battery powered electric mower. I have used it now for about a month and love it. It does an excellent job of cutting the grass, is easy to handle and is quieter than our vacuum cleaner. The lift-out battery feature is very simple to use and by storing it in a heated area during the winter should result in longer battery life. I am extremely pleased with this mower and can recommend it to others.

I bought this mower about two months ago and have used it about half a dozen times. I love it. I'll never go back to a gas mower. It is ready to go out of the box, cuts great, has good power (not as powerful as a gas mower but plenty strong enough to cut St. Augustine grass in the Florida summer; I haven't hit grass yet it doesn't cut clean) and runs quiet. I have a huge backyard -- probably close to 1/4 acre -- and I can cut the whole thing on one charge. You can't overcharge the battery; you just leave it plugged in the whole time you're not mowing. I bought a second battery but I've never had to use it. No gas; no oil; no maintenance; no smell; reduced noise; and a good cut. I'll only add one caveat: if you don't get a second battery and run out of power, it'll take a few hours to charge up to finish the job. Either get a second battery or (like me) or plan to take two days to cut. Also, you can't get this if you're the type who can't remember to charge the battery. Other than that, it's a great mower.

Bad: In any grass except mowed a few days before, you need to walk slow to not bog down the mower. The height adjustment does not work, but the only position that it will lock is right for me. The grass catcher will not work if the lawn clippings are too long. The battery is Ni-cad not NiMH so it will not last many seasons. It is a push mower so you get some exercise.

Good: It is environmentally good. No starting problems. B&D has finally after more than 50 years found out that there is a LED to let you know if it is plugged in. The charging system appears to be very good. It is a push mower so you get some exercise.

I definitely like this drill... it gets just about everything done. The most I really ever need it for is drilling a few holes in the wall or in wood or in plastic. For that, it's more than adequate. However, for really heavy duty drilling, you'll need something stronger. It definately does not have the power to drill metal (ex drilling out a stripped screw), or the torque needed to drill a big screw into hardwood. For the general person though, it would work great and fulfill your needs.

This was the first drill i actually purchased for myself and must say it was very easy to use. I got a great deal on Amazon and it works just you'd expect. I am in my 70s and fairly fit, have a large garden. This hedger weighs about 8 or 9 pounds not too bad at all. but hangs out about 4-5 feet. I cut hedges of various types, privot, juniper etc. The hedger is long and therefore the weight is out about 4 feet, it helps to latch the switch on freeing up your grip. I generally cut for 30-40 minutes and take a break. The adjustable cutter angle is helpful but at 45 degrees throws off the balance somewhat. I am happy with this hedger, battery life is good, way beyond my 45 minutes of work and charging is no problem. I recommend this hedger if you are able to hold 8 pounds out 4 feet or so physically, otherwise get a norml lenght hedger and use a ladder or taller hedges..

I was so excited to get this. My hedges are about 10' high and 10' wide. I only need to trim them once or twice a year at the most so it didn't make since to spend the money on a comercial one. Then it came. It is heavy and flimsy. It did reach the center of the hedges that I could not reach with my regular hedge trimmers but, after about five minutes it started to smoke and smell and shut off. I let it cool down and tried it again and the same thing happened. I sent it back and am waiting for my refund.

I bought the Black and Decker NPT318 Cordless Pole Hedge Trimmer based on the reviews on Amazon. And I was pleasantly surprised. I have lots of tall bushes, so I needed an extended reach trimmer. My previous trimmer was the Remington Axcess trimmer with telescoping, tilting handle, AC powered. I finally stripped out the metal gear box trying to cut too large of branches, so time for a new one. Though I worked the Remington VERY hard for 3 years, I liked it, and it held up well (except for the plastic tilt release lever breaking off the first week), the Amazon reviews about it's plastic parts breaking were so bad that I thought maybe I got lucky and had received one of the few good ones. So I decided to look for a different trimmer.

First, I liked the fact that the B&D NPT318 was battery powered .... no more cords to cut and trip over! The battery life was excellent considering how hard this tool works (about an hour of start & stop trimming). And it does cut branches under 3/8" very well. The Remington cut up to 3/4", so the B&D is a compromise in this regard. It is light enough to give you good vertical reach without tiring you out. I even used it one-handed for some tall straight up stuff. But reaching out horizontally is a workout for the shoulder muscles! And the overall tool balance is not as nice as the Remington since the B&D pole does not telescope. This problem is compounded by the fact that the trigger switch cannot be locked in the "ON" position, so you must constantly hold the switch end of the tool, rather than locking the switch "ON" and grabbing the tool farther up the handle where it would be balanced. The B&D is easy to use if you are about 3 -4 feet from the bush, but it is difficult to use close in because you have to keep one hand way back behind you on the trigger. And, depending on your landscaping, or if you're on a ladder (yeah, I know but I don't own a cherry picker!), sometimes you just can't get far enough away from the bush. A telescoping handle would solve this problem! The easy-to-tilt power head helped somewhat in this situation. The motor end of the tool is light weight, so tilting the head does not cause balance problems. Lubricating the blades every hour or so with 30 weight motor oil reduces blade friction, extending the battery life and keeps the blades sharp. You'll also want an extra battery or two. The NPT318 comes with the standard 'cheapy' dumb charger that takes up to 9 hours to recharge a battery. I bought and recommend the B&D model BDFC240 smart charger ($30) which charges up 9.6V - 24V B&D batteries in under 2 hours.

Note to the B&D engineers: go with a 24V battery and increase the cut size to 5/8 or 3/4". Telescoping pole! "ON" lock for the trigger!

SUMMARY:

Cons:

-Gets heavy and tiring when reaching out horizontally

-Only cuts up to 3/8" --- really!

After cutting 120 ft lengths of arbor vitae hedges for years I was skeptical that this product would work, especially with the terrible reviews of the B+D replacement batteries. But the generally positive reviews here led me to take a chance and get it. This review is a bit pre-mature because I've not had time to see how the battery stands up over time, but that's the only reason I didn't give 5 stars.

What I'm cutting: About 120 ft of arbor vitae 7 ft tall and 3-4 ft wide. I had new growth for midway through last season to now, about 8" worth generally.

How I used to do the job: I had built a rolling scaffold that worked, but involved climbing and lots of reaching over the very wide hedges. This job generally was a tiring full day's work and sometimes I would do it over two days.

How the B+D pole trimmer did the job: I finished the whole thing in about an hour, doing a better job than I'd done with the scaffolding. I could hardly believe how well it worked. The reviewer who said if you've done this job before with a regular hedge trimmer you won't find this tiring was correct. Like any tool it takes some experimenting to see the best way to use it, but the various positions give you lots of choices. You almost smile as you go right by those difficult places where it was hard to get the scaffolding in place.

Power of trimmer: I used to use a Little Wonder professional electric trimmer. When I started this one and listened to it I thought there's no way this is going to "cut it." But it just did. I was out for about an hour cutting most of the time and the battery seemed to lose none of it's power. In fact after I did the whole job I decided to do a couple of low hedges I usually don't do at the same time and continued on with that...and the same thing the next day. It's fun finding different ways to use the trimmer. The little manual recommends an upward sweeping motion to cut the face of tall hedges, but with the right angle adjustment I found I could just walk along the hedge holding the blade vertical to the ground, do this in 3 passes and the whole face was done with much less effort. The blade may not cut as efficiently in that position but it worked fine. Size of cut: This works well for arbor vitae new growth. It cuts the stuff less than 3/8th easily. All I know is that during the whole job it never jammed on anything for the type of growth I described.

I probably will trim more frequently now that it is so easy. But still it will into the fall before this happens. I'll come back with the battery story then. Frankly, even if I had to buy a battery every year or two there's no going back for me. But I'm hopeful that with good care the battery will last longer than that. In any case, my scaffold climbing days are over.

A bit disappointed in the quality of this trimmer; does not feel sturdy and the weight is not balanced well. I also have an Echo gas pole trimmer with a telescoping pole with reach up to 21 ft. that is substantial in weight, but well-balanced and rock-solid. Bought this one to be used on light-weight work on smaller shrubs and be able to work standing up versus bent over using a Mantis gas trimmer that has been great, but gets heavy after awhile. I like the ease of the pivot adjustment and is a snap to take apart for storage. The charger provided should have been the type that can be wall-mounted; this has to be laid on top of a flat surface. This trimmer is good for light work, but leave the heavy thick shrubs to gas trimmers.

I received this item very quickly and put it right to work. The battery does last 15-20 minutes, but that was ok with me. With my shoulder injury, I figured that was all I could really handle. It does a really nice job on all but the stemmiest bushy weed. Unlike my husbands gas powered one, I never have to stop to pull the string out. It's just easy trimming for 15-20 minutes. Sometimes it lasts longer than I want to go. I live on 5 acres and am using this in my 1/2 acre garden which had 3 ft weeds in it. Beautiful!

I use this trimmer for tasks in a medium sized yard (along fences, foundation, around a telephone pole and big trees) and the edger for the sidewalks on a corner lot. It works great and runs for more than 20 minutes (I do the front, charge while mowing, then do the back yard or whatever I missed). I keep the battery pack and charger indoors, and the trimmer in the shed. It replaced a cheap but new gas trimmer from the home center (which started only 30% of the time and fell apart literally the week the warranty ran out) and a better quality but finicky gas trimmer that I got used (which was heavy and loud). As long as you keep up with your yard fairly often, this makes trimming a pleasure. For a female homeowner like me it was a GREAT purchase.

First I do like the trimmer with some reservations. One battery just does not allow me to do my modest yard. I purchased an additional trimmer so I have two batteries and two chargers and that is almost the correct formula, actually a third battery would be great, if they were available anywhere. I find the trimmer a bit heavier than expected and occasionally must change hands using it along a long fence line. My last timmer was a Walmart Weed Eater that had the head turn over for edging and I liked it but for it leaking gas. I bought this new trimmer in the hope it would be the better choice, I am not sure that it is. Time will tell. On thick weeds, it is under powered.

We've had this handheld vac for over 1 month and it works to our satisfaction. It has plenty of suction and is fairly easy to hold and operate. Emptying the unit and cleaning the filter is a bit awkward and takes a little getting used at first but it's not a problem now. Mounting the charger on the wall was easy and the unit sets in the charger with no difficulty. A major shortcoming of our previous handheld vacs has been the lifespan of the rechargeable batteries and of course there is is no way we can tell how long the ones in this product will last. We can only hope they do better than our previous units.

I have small vegetable and flower gardens and this tool is better at preparing ground for planting than I expected. The back fence area has a lot of tiny matted roots from nearby trees, and with some patience, it loosened the roots enough that I could plant large pots of perennials and bulbs. I've had this little gadget for over a year now, and I can't even BEGIN to tell you how many hours it has saved. I really want to be clear on what it is and does, though...

This item is not really a tiller. It will not chop anything up. It won't get right up to the edge of a sidewalk or fence (but close). It's meant for light garden work. My husband refers to is as an 'electric hoe' and that seems to describe it well. We have a house that sits on almost 3/4 acre. The entire border around the outside consists of several levels of terraced garden/flower areas. THe house is currently for sale, so we have nothing planted IN those beds, but they need to remain looking nice (read: EMPTY of all vegetation). We do not want to use chemicals to do this. The beds have some areas that are very rocky, lots of rock borders, concrete fence posts...and some areas that get super thick grass (think sod-thick) if left unattended too long. Battery lasts pretty long, but it depends on the terrain and what you're removing. I bounce this off buried concrete chunks a lot, and tines still look perfect. Very durable.

I've cleaned solid grass out of many of these flower beds. Yes, it does go slower than a tiller. BUT, it's cleaner to use and easier to clean up the flowerbeds afterwards, not to mention light and super easy to work. Once you go over an area, the grass/weeds will pretty much be ready to pick straight up, or rake. I broke down and purchased a high-power battery and quick charger to go with it, for times when I forget to charge :).

Where this guy really shines is in bed maintenance. I can keep all of these beds spotless for about 30 mins work every month or so. This is down from several hours (2-3) every few weeks. With semi-regular use, the soil stays soft and loose - so most of the time, I can bend down and pick up one weed, root and all, from the ground without any digging (because the soil is so loose). Last year I filled a few beds with anuuals - this guy worked around them with ease, keeping weeds out from between them. I even loaned it to my 87 year old neighbor for her flowerbeds and she was able to use it with ease.

I gave this garden cultivator to my husband for Father's Day and he loves his new toy! No more bending over for hours weeding his garden! This is the first year his garden has been weed free! I did purchase and extra battery pack as it only last for approximately 45 minutes of work time so this has been helpful. It's a little short on power if you are trying to clear a lot of thick weeds but after you get the worst out, it goes very smoothly!

I bought this cultivator to help me keep the incredible amount of weeds we get in the garden down. This is *not* a roto-tiller, it won't replace a roto-tiller, but it does a great job in already-loosened soil. I've been fighting a battle with wild garlic chives for the past few years, and this does a pretty good job of getting them and their roots out, and I may actually get ahead of the weeds this year.

I took off one star only because I wish it had a bit more power, as we have clay (aka "concrete") soil, but it works better than I expected. I just need to remember to do the harder spots with a fresh battery.

It's lightweight, easy to handle, and gets me out weeding more often since it's not so tiring to use in the heat. I love B&D's 18V cordless line - I also have the weed-eater and pole-chainsaw-pruner, and have the chainsaw in my cart to buy as well. The ones I have work very well, and I would buy them all again.
