I've used several times now - have fully charged the battery after every use for the recommended time and then some. The inconvenient truth is that this trimmer only runs for approximately 15 minutes, and that's at the "low" power setting. That's just not enough. A major design flaw, but absolutely brilliant marketing on Black & Decker's part.
Avoid this.

You know that you are going to get shoddy quality with a B&D product. In that respect, this machine does not disappoint. Expect to get about 15 minutes from your battery (so add another to the price of the machine) and expect the charger to break within the first two months of use. This is not just my experience. It's common. Take all of this into consideration and ask, "why bother?" Just pay the extra money upfront to buy a quality product and move on. I wish I had.

I am happy with my string trimmer so far and it definitely has enough power for me. If anything it has too much power and you will get hit with dirt and small rocks sometimes. The bad thing is the battery life is not very good even on the normal mode. I really doubt I am getting 25 minutes like it says I should. Fortunately I have a few 18V batteries from other accessories and they work well too (except they drain in half the time). I would not get this for large yards or with the expectation of getting multiple uses on one charge. I sprung for the turbo charger on amazon so it charges in 2 hrs for the 24V and 1 hr for the 18V. It was worth the 30 bucks to save the time and having to stop the job before it is complete. I would recommend a gas trimmer if you do not have otheror plan on getting other Black and Decker accessories and batteries. I like having interchangeable devices and this is my 5th piece so it was worth it for me.

Out of the box, the trimmer needed to be charged and it took 9 hours. It works fine with the trimming and edging and it's nice that you don't have to tap it on the ground when the wire needs extending. It was convenient since it's not attached to a wire so mobility is excellent. It's not that heavy either, and unlike gas trimmers, it's not that noisy. But nice as it is, you can't really appreciate it if it dies after 20 minutes. It barely edged our front yard and it's not that big. It's very disappointing because I expected Black and Decker to come up with very good products. Their name didn't stand by this trimmer. We thought the battery was defective but if a lot of people are complaining of the same thing, then B & D just used a crappy battery to begin with.

I was excited about the power---plenty of it. Not crazy about the auto-feed, but OK, no big deal.
However, battery life? Ridiculous. After a few minutes (ten or fifteen?), it quit.
The weight was pretty heavy as well, but tolerable for me, especially since it was powerful, but I would imagine others will complain that the unit is too heavy.
I'm going to return it but don't know what the store will say since I used it. We'll see.
