used it twice, very expensive for 20 minutes of battery power, extra battery is another $100.00, not worth the investment.

My trimmer arrived right on time....Charged battery overnight...Used next day...I have small yard, and a lot of woods area around house...Used for it all and it performed fantastic...Was a little heavy at first, but about the same as gas trimmer...shoulderstrap helps a lot...I really, really like this trimmer...My wife and I are very concerned about our environment, and using this bettery powered unit really fits the bill for us...I would recommend this trimmer to anyone who wants quality and to break away from the hassle of gas trimmers...Thanks black and Decker for making this, and thanks Amazon for getting it to me on time and in perfect condition...

"Worst Experience With a Product" 2010-07-24
By Joe
This has been the worst experience I have had with any product PERIOD. The only reason I didn't score this product 1 star is that it was exactly what I needed when it worked properly.

First, the weed eater failed with a puff of smoke and a whimper after only 4 uses. I sent it back to Black and Decker to get it repaired and had to wait a few weeks to get it back. After I got it back it worked fine for another 8 months or so.

Then the battery started to decline until I couldn't even get half my yard trimmed before I had to put it on the charger for another 8 hours. I paid $300 for this thing when it was new and to get a NiCad battery in such an expensive product in this day and age is unbelievable.

When the string ran out, re-stringing the thing was a nightmare. It's almost impossible to get it to advance unless you string it absolutely perfectly. The design is terrible because I've had trimmers before where re-stringing was not a problem.

Shortly after re-stringing for the first time the string advance mechanism broke. It's only 10 bucks to get a new one but at this point I've just about had it with this thing.

"Got what I paid for." 2010-07-22
By Darrell Ross (Arcata, CA United States)
I read all the reviews for this string trimmer before buying it. I couldn't help but be a little skeptical of the reviewers who said the battery doesn't last long enough. I use it for about 30-40 minutes every time. The trigger on this trimmer is variable. For all but the biggest weeds, I only need to hold it at half action -- this uses far less battery power than holding it all the way down. If you don't want to attempt to conserve energy as you go, don't bother getting a battery powered trimmer.

It is important to have some idea about the way a battery works. My description here may be a little off as it's been a while since I studied all this but here it goes: as power is drawn from the battery, there is a slow build-up around the electrodes inside the battery. The build-up varies depending on battery type. If a battery is discharged at a high rate for a short burst and then not drawn from for a moment, it gives the build-up a chance to spread out away from the electrodes. This is why a car with a dead battery can sometimes be started if the battery is left disconnected for a short time. I employ this concept while using my trimmer. when I have completed one chunk of small weeds, I release the trigger while swinging the trimmer 5 feet to the right and bring it to 1/2 action again on the next batch. This helps reduce draw on the battery and prolong it's life.

While this may seem like an inconvenience, it is simply a trade-off for me. I like my garage not smelling like fuel. I have a human powered reel mower and this battery powered string trimmer.

If you are mowing your entire lawn or doing several acres of edging, this is not the tool for you. I live on 0.17 acres and have a back yard full of weeds and lots of edging to do around my house where the lawn mower doesn't reach. This trimmer is definitely as powerful as any gas trimmer I have used.

I also really like the option to have two batteries charging on the station. I will likely buy a second battery down the road sometime.

There was one reviewer who said this was a good option for tall people. I think it works great for anyone about 6'4" tall or shorter. I am 6'8" tall and it is just slightly too short for me. I have found a way to allow the shoulder strap to hang quite low and it works but it's a little awkward. If you are freakishly tall like me, and will be using your trimmer a lot, you may want to consider a gas powered option since they come in very long sizes.

 "Cordless Weed Wacker" 2010-07-21

Works fine for what it is built for, when you purchase get the spare battery and spool of line. This unit is a bit heavy and a better harness for use would be good, I am using the one from a Husky brush saw. Batteries will charge overnite, wait for the green light. I have 500 feet deep and 200 frontage, times 2. works fine, but again 2 batteries are needed, walks thru everything, but again this is not a brush saw. I like it, no worry that 2 months from now it will fail, like the gas powered ones, yes and it will start next summer!! no cord to drag around. Lots of power, be sure to wear proper PPE safety glass,s and shoes unless you want green toes!! The only small problem I have had is that the string is not spooling out, need to remove the spool, pull out the string, this only takes a minute, probably wound too tight at the factory. Two year warranty is good. I pressure wash the bottom end after each use as the grass will pit and be hard to remove after. I live in cottage country, Raspberry and even Blackberry bushs are no match, the thick burr plants need a little work, start from the top down. Works great for me. If you plan on taking down trees, get a brush saw... oh yes almost forgot that this unit is eco friendly as in Green. No smell or cloud of exhaust, no cord to trip over. 5 stars from me.
